Denise Scotto is an attorney at law, policy advisor, international speaker, and interfaith minister.  She started her legal career as a public interest attorney working in the trial courts of the city of New York.  This was followed by working as a staff member at the UN Headquarters in New York. Initially, she helped reform the internal UN system of justice, then moved to DESA-the Department for Economic and Social Affairs- where she handled issues relating to economic and social policy; development; human rights, including those concerning women, children, persons with disabilities, youth, indigenous peoples, and older persons. She was also involved in working on UN Security Council Resolutions relating to civilians in war and armed conflict.

Denise has held leadership positions in many professional legal organizations including the American Bar Association’s International Law & Practice Section, the New York State Bar Association’s International Law Section, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s UN Committee, the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, the International Federation of Women in Legal Careers in which she still serves as a Vice President, and, notably, the UIA (Union International des Avocats) which led her to fulfilling a dream to travel to India in 1999.

At the same time, Denise promotes how the teaching of ancient wisdom is relevant to our lives today through her presence as a former Coordinating Council Member of the Values Caucus at the UN, the International Day of Peace Committee at the UN, the NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns, and a Board Director of the All Faiths Seminary International.  She is most honored to be a founding Chair of the International Day of Yoga Committee at the United Nations, which works in close collaboration with other faith-based and spiritual leaders to promote heart-centered values and to show how these are relevant to UN days and our pressing global challenges. One of the treasured projects she spearheaded is the creation of the Committee’s online yoga journal.
