The PAUSE Model of Spiritual Counseling™ training program provides a psychospiritual approach to Counseling designed to be used by clergy or laity. This program supports the client and practitioner in recognizing and transforming unwanted emotional, mental and physical patterns that keep them from experiencing their Divine Nature.
Through the study of Character Analysis and the Enneagram, this Model classifies fourteen primary personality patterns that can unconsciously create and maintain fear, separation, and guilt. By applying the PAUSE Model, the counselor and client can identify and address the underlying factors contributing to their current challenges.
One of the core axioms of our program is “Awareness Heals.” As the counselee learns to recognize the ego’s often unquestioned influence, they increase their ability to choose a healthier, more loving response to the challenges in their lives. Most importantly, they acquire the tools needed to transform obstacles into powerful insights and develop the resources to consciously manifest their heart’s desire.
About the PAUSE Model
The PAUSE Model as created by Drs. Hamilton and James integrates traditional psychotherapeutic and trauma resolution theory and techniques through the cultivation of five primary resource states, all focused on removing the obstacles to the awareness of Divine Presence.
U-Unwind the Past
The PAUSE Model views the entire counseling process as a mutual spiritual path to wholeness, recognizing that all concerned are consciously and unconsciously engaged in their own personal awakening process. It explicitly recognizes God, (referred to in the generic form as Divinity), as the ultimate resource that energizes, heals, and is the source of unconditional Love.
A foundational premise of the Model is that our greatest challenge is recognizing the truth of who we are. Divinity sees us as a perfect extension of It’s Perfect Love, and we do not. Our only need, then, is to transform the false identity that we have taken ourselves to be.
While behavior modification is often the desired outcome of counseling, many approaches only address the symptomology, not the underlying causality of the presenting behavioral issues. The PAUSE Model does not seek to manage and modify egoic behavior, as many schools of psychotherapy teach, rather it uncovers the ego’s fear-based limiting beliefs and emotional patterns that impede our personal connection with the Divine. It utilizes resource-driven spiritual psychotherapy to assist the counselors and their counselees.
Based on the wisdom of Character Analysis and the Enneagram, we recognize that each unique personality combination creates a cloud of distraction that keeps us from consistently recognizing and connecting with the Divine. By applying the PAUSE Model, the counselor and client can identify and address the underlying factors contributing to their current challenges. In addition, key Trauma Resolution techniques support the counselor in recognizing and transforming traumatic disruptions in the body/mind continuum, which often influence or mask other imbalances.
The classroom as well as internet webinar segments include Lecture, PowerPoint, Handouts, Demonstrations, Guided Meditations, and interactive counseling experiences as both Client and Counselor. We will provide each student with an approved MP3 Player loaded with the appropriate audio required for the class. All students will need access to a broadband Internet connected PC with webcam and audio for the online webinar and counseling classes. Additionally, they will need to regularly login to the NVI Student Portal (http://p-a-u-s-e.com/students) to access online content, which will include video, audio, Word and PDF documents, as well as the Student Community Chatroom (http://p-a-u-s-e.com/community).
The PAUSE Model is the result of synthesizing the best of multiple therapeutic modalities using a Divinity-centric approach. PAUSE represents the distillation of Drs. Hamilton and James’ life-work and is based on removing the obstacles to the awareness of Love’s endless presence, which is the birthright of everyone, everywhere.
